Repairing process: Flattening a Curled Tile

In order to start with the repairing process,

Step 1. Pull up the Tile Corner and Cover the curled tile with a piece of tinfoil and place a warm clothes iron, set it on medium heat, (The tinfoil helps prevent damage and discoloration from the heat.) Once the tile is pliable, lift the curled corner with a putty knife, scrap the old adhesive off the tile corner and exposed floor underneath the tile.

Step 2. Apply Adhesive: Apply adhesive to the underside of the exposed corner of the tile and press the corner firmly into place. Use mineral spirits to wipe off any of excess adhesive.

Step 3. Weigh the Tile Down: Once the tile is in place, weigh it down with 2 buckets of water until the tile has set. Place scrap wood pieces underneath the buckets to distribute the weight evenly over the tile. Follow

Replacing a Damaged Tile:

Step 1. Remove the Tile: Place a tinfoil over the damaged tile and press a warm iron on the tinfoil until the damaged tile is pliable. Cut into the center of the tile with a utility knife and pry up the tile from the center cut using a putty knife.

Step 2. Scrape Away Old Adhesive: Apply any mineral spirits to the floor that was under the damaged tile and, using a putty knife, scrape away the old floor-covering adhesive.

Step 3. Replace With New Tile: Using a clothes iron, warm the new tile, that has been covered with a sheet of tinfoil. (This avoids discoloration.) Once the tile is flexible, apply adhesive to the floor with a notched trowel and drop the tile into place. Press the tile down firmly and wipe away any seeping adhesive with mineral spirits. Use scrap wood under buckets of water to weigh the tile down until it dries.
