Importance of curtains in interior design:
Curtains are an important part of interior design for a couple of reasons. First, the doors & windows tend to be large areas of wall square footage; therefore what is being put on them will have a large impact. Second, curtains impact things like light and drafts. Choosing curtains, which are often expensive, requires consideration of these elements. There are many simple styles of curtains, shades, & valances through which one can easily create to dressings for the interiors for home at home. The key is to keep things in balance, rather than overpower the space with too many contrasting fabrics.
Selection of fabric for sewing of curtains:
Most fabrics for sewing curtains are available in either 54 in. wide, or extra wide, at 110 in. or 118 in. Extra-wide fabrics are usually intended for unlined sheer curtains, and are meant to be railroaded. They may also be used to run sideways with the selvage at the top and bottom of the curtains, allowing the curtains to be made without seams. Many narrower fabrics can also be railroaded to avoid seams. Fabrics used for sewing curtains come in a variety of weights according to their intended uses which are mainly upholstery, bedding, curtains, and sheers. There are still lots of variations within these broad categories, so one has to judge each fabric individually.
